AS WE TURN OUR BACK to all the holiday festivities and the enthusiasm around them, we again come face to face with reality. It sits there, grinning meekly at us and takes us back to our routines. New Year feels like one big reset button that we run towards for twelve months, which is why January feels like the perfect time to make BIG changes in our lives. But how many of those big changes do we actually succeed in making before life kills our enthusiasm?

It’s all about the mindset. It’s all about how determined we are to make something happen. It’s all about staying positive. I really like being positive and I really try to look at “the bright side of life” {did you sing it while reading it too?}, but just because it’s the new year, it doesn’t really mean that you will be able to make all of those big changes you wanted to. More often than not, things don’t work out exactly how you planned them too.

For example, I am planning on making some changes to the blog and I wanted to use my free time from work in January to make some of them happen. I also wanted to sew some new designs I drew. Sadly, due to some circumstances, we suddenly had to move apartments, so I am using up all the free time to pack boxes and bags, and dismantle furniture. Totally not how I planned on starting my new year, but oh well. That’s that. Life is unfair in many ways. It doesn’t always work out regardless of

how meticulously you plan it.

But good things can come out from even the toughest situations. To continue my example, I spent the most beautiful and festive time of the year working, but I am also very pumped about the move because my new place is very close to the river and the running track, as well as to other parts of the city that I didn’t really frequent even though I wanted to because I didn’t have a need to go there.

What I realized is that the only thing we can do when life doesn’t work out is not to let its stream pull us in and make us give up. Making big resolutions can result in big disappointments if life gets in the way of fulfilling them.

So, I decided to take it one step at a time. Big changes don’t happen at once. Big changes are a result of numerous small changes and constant efforts. We should focus on and celebrate even the smallest achievements. Happiness is definitely in the small things.

So for this year, I don’t have any big resolutions nor do I have any big expectations of 2018. What I do have is the positive mindset that if I work hard and don’t give up, I will be one step closer to fulfilling my aspirations. Oh, and I really have some interesting things in store for the blog and for you!

How about you? What are your thoughts on big resolutions?
