It's not just a place. It's a feeling.
Tucked in a small alley in the heart of Skopje, Gastroteca Siesta it’s not just another place in town. It’s a feeling. From the moment you enter you are met with indescribable warmth radiating from the exquisite interior design complete with warm tones and almost romantic lights. Tilt your head back a little and you will find not a ceiling, but a maze of intricate pipes and bare light bulbs. Shift your gaze around and you will find that every corner and every wall is a story for itself. In fact, Siesta feels like the place where stories meet for good food and drinks and decide to settle down.
It’s a sanctuary. Yeah, that’s what it is. A sanctuary on two floors. A compilation of creative corners in every corner. In fact, if you happen to get lost in its awesomeness, you have a map of the world carved in bricks right at the center of the first floor to remind you that yes, you are still on planet Earth instead of an unknown realm of imagination.
If you walk past that map and past the immaculately arranged shelves sporting countless books and what feels like souvenirs from every corner of the world, you will find yourself at the top of the staircase leading to the basement floor.
The basement floor feels like the place where all the fun happens. Shelves filled with liquor and fine glassware and walls lined with barrels and cut rings of tree trunks that give the illusion that you are not in Skopje, but in a winery ready to talk about your wealth with rich business owners over a glass of good wine. Even a non-alcohol drinker like myself is tempted to pop open a bottle.
But, of course, Siesta doesn’t only appeal to your visual senses, but your taste buds as well. The staff is also friendly, adding to the warmth of the atmosphere.
So if you are in Skopje, drop by. You will love it.
Enjoy the avalanche of photos.
