THE RESORT LADY

YOU LOOK LIKE A LADY that owns a resort!” my friend exclaimed as she greeted me wearing this cotton button up dress. “Well, I haven’t met one, but thanks!* My planned first sentence to her was initially different. It involved a plea to finish all walking errands first before sitting down somewhere, because once this resort-owning lady sits down in this dress, people might think that her butler has never heard of an iron. But, if we exclude its nasty wrinkling tendency, this dress is the perfect resort piece.

It’s lightweight, it’s cotton, and it’s easy to wear. Button up, and bam, you are ready.

This dress is one of the many gems I’ve found while digging around in my mom’s closet {I did remove the shoulder pads and replace the buttons to bring it into the new century}. And it can be worn in more ways than one! If you have been following me for a longer time, then you probably remember seeing it as an overlay piece in one of my previous posts. I’ve also worn it as a long shirt, buttoned down till my waist with a pair of shorts underneath.

The thing is, beige is my go to color when a) I wake up and face the “I have nothing to wear” nightmare, and b) when I want to look clean and sharp without trying too hard. For some inexplicable reason, beige has the power to solve both cases. I can’t say that it’s my favorite neutral because that title goes to gray, but it is fairly present in my closet. So if you see me wearing beige, you are 99% right to believe that I was in a bind that morning and that beige saved me.

What is your favorite neutral?

Friend: "You look like a lady that owns a resort!"

Me: "Well, I haven't met one, but thanks!"

*Don’t you just love how creative people can get with their comments? I shared similar ones in my post about that white floral dress that I designed and blogged about.
